Applicant overview: The Project is an established voluntary organisation which was set up to meet the health and social needs of pre-school children and their parents or carers. The Project serves the Billesley Ward of south Birmingham. The Project was established in January 1996 with the aims of, 1) meeting the needs of all children within the group and to actively encourage children of all different abilities and education needs to attend, 2) offering a high staff to children ratio so that necessary individual attention may be given to children, 3) operating a key worker system, including child observations and record books to monitor children's development, 4) encouraging parental involvement in all aspects of the Project playgroup, 5) offering a broad variety of activities in order to stimulate children's desire to play and learn, and 6) offering a welcoming and friendly environment to children. Project activities include pre-school education, family support, play and learning, education and training and community development.
