LevelFile
Date1994 - 1998
DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, copies of published material, reports, leaflets, project proposals and funding requests relating to the West Midlands Consortium Project (WMCP). Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust, Racial Justice Programme. Applicant overview: The WMCP is collaboration between Newman College, Westhill College and the University of Central England. It was initiated with the support of the Higher Education Funding Council. The overall aim of the Project is to increase access for ethnic minorities to intermediate teacher training (ITT) through developmental activity based around the work of a co-ordinator, both with the three HE institutions as well as with other key agencies. Structured outreach work is especially important because of the growing trend of students applying to their local HE, as opposed to travelling further afield. Specific objectives are to, 1) review the recruitment of black students to Initial Teacher training, 2) consult with schools, FE colleges, black organisations, to raise the profile of ITT, 3) develop marketing activities to target black students, 4) encourage black student recruitment and course activities, 5) explore options relating to course content that will attract black students, 6) create effective networks with black community organisations, and 7) focus upon specific groups of potential students. Nature of support: In 1995 the Trust approved a single grant of £18,000 towards the salary of the project co-ordinator. In 1996 on the recommendation of Racial Justice Programme Relevant Trustees a further single grant of £7,500 was approved. Minutes: BCT 79, BCT 282. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered 'W/8'.
