DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, periodicals, copies of published material, reports and funding requests relating to the United World College of the Atlantic (AWCA). Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: Atlantic College was founded in 1962 by German educationalist Kurt Hahn. His concept was to engage young people from all nations in finding peaceful means to bring together a world divided by political, racial and socio-economic barriers by learning from one another. The original aims and objectives of the movement continue to be relevant today with the additional consideration of the natural environment. One of the first colleges in the world, and the first in the UK, to follow an international curriculum and promote international understanding, Atlantic College continues to be a pioneering educational establishment. Nature of support: In 2000 the Trust agreed to a single grant of £15,000 towards the College's Palestine programme. Minutes: BCT 867. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File not numbered.
