Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The PET was established by Jerry Tyrrell, a prominent Northern Ireland Friend. PET's pilot project, the Ulster Quaker Peace Education Project was established in April 1988 with the aim of fostering peace education and education for mutual understanding in the primary and secondary school sectors particularly in the western area of Northern Ireland. Two areas to be addressed are speaking to the uncommitted and supporting those who are committed but work in isolation. Nature of support: In 2001 the Trust approved three annual grants of £14,000 to the PET for its reconciliation work in schools. This grant was rescinded following Tyrrell's death in 2002.
