DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, newsletters, reports and funding requests relating to the Friend International Centre, Nairobi. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The Friends International Centre, Nairobi is situated on 2.5 acres of land and consists of two dwelling houses connected by a covered way. Increased demands for space for clerical and meeting purposes led the Management Committee of the Centre to contact the Trust to request funds to allow for the addition of a purpose built meeting room. This request led Trust Secretary Anthony Wilson to visit the Centre and draft a report in favour of the project. Further work at the Centre by the East Africa Yearly Meeting (EAYM) led to the creation of the Quaker International and Social Affairs Programme (QISAP) which aims to apply EAYM experience to other regions of Africa, to provide a greater sense of purpose to scattered Friends groups across Africa and to transform this experience into a social philosophy to apply across the region. Nature of support: The Trust approved a grant of £3,000 for the meeting room and toiled facilities, subsequently increased to £4,000 in 1970. The Trust committed £35,000 to the QISAP programme but noted its progress was not encouraging and this prevented the Trust from approaching other foundations to recommend funding assistance. Nevertheless the Trust continued its support until 1978 at £17,500 per annum. Minutes: B&GSCT 3238, B&GSCT 3336, B&GSCT 3570, B&GSCT 3653, B&GSCT 3805, B&GSCT 4165. Notes: File organised by date from newest to oldest. File not numbered.
