| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, press release, minutes, project proposals, newspaper cuttings, agendas, newsletters, reports, copies of published material and funding requests relating to the Minority Rights Group (MRG), International Disaster Institute (IDI) and other immigration and nationality organisations. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The MRG campaigns for disadvantaged minority or indigenous groups across the globe including the rights of refugees under international law. The IDI was formed by members of the London Technical Group, the Disaster Research Unit of Bradford University and the Disasters and Settlements Study Centre at Oxford Polytechnic. The objective of the IDI is to lessen the human impact of future disasters by three main methods: 1) initiating, promoting and conducting research, 2) providing consultancy service for field evaluations, and 3) providing an information and educational service for relief workers and agencies. Nature of support: In 1979 the Trust approved a grant of £1,800 towards the cost of a report prepared by the MRG relating to the status of refugees and their rights under international law. The Trust also provided a £6,000 one off grant to the IDI towards the publication of a book on disasters and refugees (with a wider scope than the MRG proposal). Minutes: B&GSCT 4954, B&GSCT 4955. Notes: IDI staff produced the MRG report but wished to expand on this publication. This file also contains correspondence with other groups involved in refugee and migration matters. File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered '2/12'. |
