Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: LHTF was created in 1968 to promote research into the peaceful resolution of conflict and the dissemination of knowledge on this subject through publications, conferences and lectures. The Trust also promotes research into the field of compulsory military service and the social, economic and legal questions arising from such service. The ADC was setup in June 1980 to examine alternatives to Britain's Cold War military policies. The alternatives considered rested on the presumption that the UK abandon its nuclear deterrent and leave NATO. The Commission includes academics, scientists, MPs, trade unionists and religious leaders. The ADC is based at the Department of Peace Studies, Bradford University. Nature of support: The Trust made two annual £5,000 grants to the Commission in 1980. Two additional grants of £5,000 were made for 1984 and 1985. A further £7,500 was committed in 1985.
