Applicant overview: Hugh Foot served in a number of senior colonial positions after the Second World War and was a UK representative to the UN. In 1964 was made a life peer, Baron Caradon. He was active in international peace issues in Africa and the Middle East and wrote on the dangers of the global population explosion. Nature of support: The Trust underwrote $5,000 in expenses for the International Student Movement for the UN (ISMUN) at the request of Lord Caradon in order to allow an international conference in Nigeria to be held despite financial difficulties. In 1972 the Fund provided Lord Caradon with £500 for secretarial expenses plus an additional £600 for 1973. This grant was renewed for 1974 and 1975. An additional small Fund grant was made in 1973 to cover the cost of a visit to Israel - the unused part of this sum was repaid upon Lord Caradon's return.
