The Richardson Institute is the research arm of the Conflict Research Society, a registered charity. NIRI was set up in 1971 to develop projects with three main aims, 1) to bring together civil servants and politicians to bring new ideas into the discussion on Northern Ireland, 2) to use conflict theory to determine what types of conflict resolution can be applied in Northern Ireland, and 3) work to examine the affect to violence on communities, on the merits and demerits of community housing and the possibility of changes in the education system. Nature of support: The Trust provided two £15,000 grants to be paid in 1972 and 1973. A further £30,972 was provided for three years beginning 1974.
