Applicant overview: This file contains applications for funding from a range of applicants on a variety of regional subjects. The Catholic Institute for International Relations (CIIR) became a registered charity in 1961. Its aims are to facilitate education and research in Christian moral principles, especially as they concern international affairs in the following ways, 1) the promotion of study circles, educational conferences and circles, 2) the provision of lectures, 3) the printing, publication and distribution of literary materials, and 4) the promotion of research and the provision of a library to aid this research. The British Council of Churches (BCC), now Churches Together in Britain and Ireland, became a registered charity in 1969. It aims to enable member Churches to work together for the advancement of the Christian religion, the relief of poverty, the advancement of education and any other charitable purpose. BCC seeks to further these objects by providing opportunities for representatives of the Churches to meet together and to share some of their resources in the pursuance of jointly agreed activities. Nature of support: In 1976 the Trust approved a grant of £1,000 to the CIIR to cover the publication costs of the International Commission of Jurists Report 'Racial Discrimination and Repression in Southern Rhodesia'. That same year the Trust approved a grant of £1,500 to support the staff costs of the Africa Secretary at the Division of International Affairs at BCC. Fund Directors also approved a £250 towards the travel expenses of African National Congress for constitutional talks with the Rhodesian government.
