DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, agendas, printed material, reports, minutes and applications for funding to support various organisations working on aspects of the Arab-Israeli conflict. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: A number of organisations had applied for or been receiving funds from the Trust including Quaker Peace and Service: Middle East which organises volunteers for peace work in Israel-Palestine, the Western Sahara Campaign which proposes a peaceful political settlement to the ongoing fighting between Moroccan troops and the Polisario Front (Popular Front for the Liberation of Saguia el-Hamra and Río de Oro) in Western Sahara and Lebanon Mediation, a conference to peacefully resolve factional issues in that country. Nature of support: It was decided not to provide funds for Quaker Peace and Service: Middle East or the Universities Educational Fund for Palestinian Refugees (UNIPAL) in 1983. However a grant for Quaker Peace and Service: Middle East was awarded in three annual £6,000 instalments to support a placement programme. Travel expenses were provided so that Dr. John Groom of the University of Kent could attend a Lebanese mediation programme meeting in Maryland, USA. Small grants were also provided by the Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd./Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust for Western Sahara: POLISARIO for office staff and equipment. A personal travel grant was approved for Dr. Uri Davis to Amman to secure funds for Volunteers for Palestine though not for the organisation as a whole.
