The purpose of the unit is to collect, collate and disseminate information relating to defence, disarmament and arms control. The unit takes no policy positions but seeks to promote a better understanding of the importance and complexity of problems in the field of armament and disarmament, particularly in the United Kingdom. Nature of support: The Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust provided a £30,000 grant made over three years (1983 - 1985) for staff, library, printing and travel expenses within the University of Sussex. A smaller follow up grant was made subsequently. The Barrow Cadbury Fund provided support for individual travel expenses.
