Applicant overview: ADIU was created in April 1978 with the support of the Joseph Rowntree Foundation as an independent body based at the Science Policy Research Unit at the University of Sussex. The purpose of the unit is to collect, collate and disseminate information relating to defence, disarmament and arms control. The unit takes no policy positions but seeks to promote a better understanding of the importance and complexity of problems in the field of armament and disarmament, particularly in the United Kingdom. Nature of support: The Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust provided a £30,000 grant made over three years (1983 - 1985) for staff, library, printing and travel expenses within the University of Sussex. A smaller follow up grant was made subsequently. The Barrow Cadbury Fund provided support for individual travel expenses.
