DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, copies pf published material, reports, agendas, leaflets, newsletters, accounts and funding requests relating to Electronics for Peace (EfP). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: EfP was formed in November 1982 from a group of peace minded electronic engineers who link the escalation of arms production and the increasing technical complexity of arms production with the work of their profession. EfP aims to 1) link and support electronic engineers who share a concern for the military implications of their profession, 2) co-ordinate action by electronic engineers to de-escalate the involvement of the industry in arms manufacture, research and development, 3) provide technical information, where appropriate, to those working in the field of nuclear and conventional armament, 4) promote an awareness of the electronic/arms link and its implications among the general public, 5) encourage the development of plans for converting industry from military to civilian production, and 6) encourage the development of positive, socially appropriate applications of electronics. Nature of support: In 1984 the Trust agreed to offer EfP a £2,000 grant for 1984 with a further £2,000 in 1985 pending a review by Trustees. In 1985 an offer of up to £10,000 was made by the Fund to allow EfP to broaden its range of business. A further small Fund grant was used to meet EfP legal expenses. In 1986 the Fund made a personal grant of £1,000 to a whistle blower recently dismissed from service at an arms manufacturer. Minutes: B&GSCT 5960, B&GSCT 6337, BCF 2625, BCF 2710, BCF 2714.
