This was the first academic department of its type in the United Kingdom. Nature of support: In 1986 a grant of £9,000 was approved to appoint a temporary lecturer in the Department. Later that year a grant of £4,000 was made for a research assistant based at Bradford. A number of other grants were also made for travel or student expenses.
