CIS began as the Abe Bailey Institute for Inter-Racial Studies in 1968 and was created through the Abe Bailey Trust. The organisation's name was changed to CIS in 1973. CIS aims to conduct research on relations between racial groups of the purpose of promoting mutual acceptance and co-operation. Nature of support: In 1981 the Trust approved two annual grants of £5,000 per annum to CIS. In 1984 the Trust approved a grant of £10,000 for a conference that did not occur. It was agreed these funds would be made available if the conference could be rescheduled. In 1986 three annual grants of £10,000 were approved.
