Applicant overview: In 1980 a group of interested Friends proposed a conference on defence policy to be held in Manchester attended by experts from military, political, academic and journalistic backgrounds. IPPNW is a non-partisan federation of national medical groups in 62 countries, representing tens of thousands of doctors, medical students, other health workers, and concerned citizens who share the common goal of creating a more peaceful and secure world freed from the threat of nuclear annihilation. IPPNW was established in 1980. Nature of support: In 1980 the Fund approved a grant of £2,000 towards the cost of a publication arising from the Manchester symposium. In 1981 the Trust made a grant of £5,000 towards the 1982 Cambridge Conference of the IPPNW. A further £5,000 was made in 1982.
