| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, reports, copies of published material, project proposals and funding requests relating to NATO Alerts Network (NAN). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: NAN was formed in 1987 to, 1) act as an early warning system to advise parliamentarians and senators in NATO countries of forthcoming decisions to be taken in the High Level Group, the NATO Defence Committee or the Nuclear Planning Group, enabling them to raise these decisions for proper democratic debate in national parliaments, 2) empower women parliamentarians and leaders to become informed and effective on defence issues, and 3) consistently highlight the contrast between NATO's outdated insistence upon military solutions to international conflict, with new work being done on political solutions, negotiation and conflict resolution. This is done by contacting and transferring of information to international press, women researchers, leaders and parliamentarians. Nature of support: In 1987 the Trust approved three annual grants at £11,500, £7,500 and £5,000 to NAN paid through the Woodstock Trust. These figures were subsequently increased to cover exchange rates. Minutes: B&GSCT 6792, B&GSCT 7233. Notes: File 'a' contains the main correspondence and grant sequence relating to NAN.
