Applicant overview: In 2007 Rachel Briggs proposed a piece of work to explore whether the concept of human security could provide a useful framework for understanding community cohesion and improving decision making about resource allocation. Specific project objectives include, 1) exploring the work carried out by community groups to document current practices, 2) relating this to latest thinking within policy and academic circles, and 3) developing a framework for understanding how a human security approach could improve approaches to community cohesion. Nature of support: In 2008 the Fund agreed to a grant of £18,075 over twelve months towards the production of a concept paper, an internal policy brief based on consultation with Barrow Cadbury groups and an event with key policy makers.
