| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, presentation slides, file sheets, annual reports, reports and funding requests relating to the Institute for Public Policy Research (IPPR) Opportunity and Inclusion Forum. Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: IPPR was the brainchild of Clive Hollick, who developed the idea for an independent progressive think-tank in 1986. With John Eatwell, Lord Hollick spent two years establishing the institute, which was publicly launched in 1988 with Tessa Blackstone as its first chair and James Cornford as its first director. IPPR is an independent charitable organisation that became a registered charity in 1988. The purpose of its work is to assist all those who want to create a society where every citizen lives a decent and fulfilled life, in reciprocal relationships with the people they care about. IPPR believes that a society of this sort cannot be legislated for or guaranteed by the state and certainly won't be achieved by markets alone. It requires people to act together and take responsibility for themselves and each other. It involves an ongoing struggle to address unjustified inequalities, to construct an economy which serves society, to challenge concentrations of power, to maintain a vibrant national and local democracy, to be open to the world and to protect our natural environment. The Opportunity and Inclusion Forum was established to bring together a diverse range of leading international thinkers and provide a wide range of discussions, seminars, lectures and debates focussing on new routes to social inclusion and widening opportunity. Nature of support: In 2003 the Trust approved a single grant of £50,000 to support the Forum for 2004/2005. Minutes: BCT 1289. Notes: Copy minutes are not included through minutes are referenced in the file sheet. File organised from newest to oldest. File not numbered. |
