Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund was established within days of the tragic death of Diana, Princess of Wales on 31 August 1997, in response to the public donations that poured in to Kensington Palace. The Fund was set up as a grant-making charity with the aim of creating a lasting legacy to the Princess' humanitarian work. From the outset, the Fund was determined to remain a resolute and influential supporter of the people on the margins of society and of the charities that work alongside them. In 2006 the Fund agreed to spend out its capital on a number of proactive grant making programmes, called Initiatives, which were: The Palliative Care Initiative, The Refugee and Asylum Seekers Initiative and The Partnership Initiative, which in 2009, became two separate Initiatives: The Cluster Munitions Initiative and The Penal Reform Initiative. Nature of support: In 2008 the Trust approved a £2,000 grant towards the cost of a literature review to determine which efforts to effect attitudinal change on asylum seekers have been the most effective.
