Applicant overview: SPAN was established to, 1) support single parents to empower themselves and take control of their lives, 2) give a voice to one parent families from diverse backgrounds and cultures living in poverty and isolation, 3) support the development of user-led one parent family groups, 4) work with organisations and decision-making bodies, 5) develop partnerships to improve policies for one parent families in the UK and internationally, and 6) celebrate diversity. SPAN acts as an umbrella organisation working across the UK with individuals and organisations to support single parent families. Nature of support: In 2008 the Trust agreed to a grant of £50,000 over twenty-four months to employ a Policy and Research Officer to assess the impact of changes to legislation for single parents into employment and also to campaign for more effective policies.
