Applicant overview: Established in 1994, Taking Part is a registered charity set up to provide an independent voice for adults with learning disabilities across Shropshire. Their main objective is to mirror the principles set out in the Government's 'Valuing People' White Paper 2001. This involves supporting and encouraging people with learning disabilities to, 1) make choices, 2) have independence, 3) exercise their rights, and 4) be included in society. Taking Part has three core elements in its service delivery including self and group advocacy, recruiting and training citizens' advocates and providing support to individuals to overcome specific short-term difficulty or crisis. Nature of support: In 2005 the Trust approved a grant of £45,000 over three years towards setting up a One Stop Advice Shop and a new outreach service for people with learning difficulties.
