Applicant overview: The UK Asian Women's Centre was established in 1983 to enable Asian women in Birmingham to realise their social, linguistic, economic and cultural potential. The Centre has two operating bases, one in Hockley, the other in Handsworth. The Centre is seen very much as a local resource and provides a number of training and educational activities aimed at maximizing employment opportunities and the lives of Asian women. Among the services they provide are an employment resource centre, an information technology suite and a mental health and primary care project. Nature of support: In 2005 the Trust agreed to a grant of £6,500 to run courses for South Asian women to enable them to enter National Vocational Qualification training in customer care, ESOL and information technology.
