Applicant overview: The Day Care Centre (DCC) is a joint project organised by the University of Birmingham Department of Social Administration and the Handsworth Adventure Playground with the support of the Children's Department. The Family Advice Service (FAS), Winson Green was created to provide community support for young people including a playground as well as a coffee bar. This project is supported by Birmingham Social Services Department. Nature of support: The Trust made a grant of £1,500 to the DCC in 1970 to support running costs and other expenses. In 1971 a one off payment of £300 was made to the FAS plus three annual grants of £200 each towards rent costs. A series of small grants were made to two American staff at FAS to allow them to meet their living expenses until their work permits were processed. A £1,500 grant was made to the Handsworth Adventure Playground to allow for new fencing to be installed. Several other small grants were made to other community groups.
