Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: The Joint Council for Afro-Caribbean Churches (JCACC) was formed from the Black Pastors Conference (BPC). JCACC is an interdenominational Christian response to the needs of city communities. The JCACC aims to 1) foster and develop awareness, within the African and Anglo Caribbean churches of the spiritual, moral and social issues prevalent and enhance a spirit of co-operation against xenophobia, 2) develop an infrastructure of organisations conducive to the existence of the African and Anglo Caribbean Churches, 3) monitor and guide policy towards a just and equitable conclusion beneficial to all ranges, 4) initiate and develop programmes on training and education, advice and information; programmes to combat alcoholism and drug abuse, homelessness, health and women’s issues; programmes to facilitate the elderly, youth and parents, 5) challenge, criticize and encourage changes within the structure of the established indigenous churches toward equal partnership, and 6) develop links internationally, with such organisations whose aims and objectives are conducive to those of the JCACC.
