| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, grant overviews, project overview, newsletters, business cards, copies of published material, reports and funding requests relating to the Birmingham Black Oral History Project (BBOHP). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: The BBOHP was set-up in 1990 to collect and document the history of black people in Birmingham in order to put the record straight and enhance communication between all races in Birmingham. This will be accomplished by capturing and recording the memories of migrants and their descendants about the lands they left behind, their immigration to Birmingham and their lives in the UK. Fieldwork will be carried out by Handsworth Employment Scheme trainees with technical advice provided by Birmingham University and the National Sound Archive. Nature of support: In 1990 the Trust approved a single grant of £15,000 to the project. In 1991 Directors and Trustees approved underwriting of up to £14,000 for the BBOHP plus £10,000 in new funds. Several extensions were made to underwriting claim dates. In 1993 the Trust approved the payment of £850 towards outstanding project bills and withdrew the £10,000 underwriting offer.
