Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: The 300 Group was started in 1980 in an Oxfordshire kitchen. It soon grew into an all-party national body whose aim is to seek the equal representation of women in Parliament and on all political forums and to assist, encourage and train women to seek and hold public office in the United Kingdom and elsewhere. Primary aims include, 1) a minimum of 300 women in the House of Commons, 2) increasing the number of women in the House of Lords, 3) encouraging women to participate in public decision-making processes at all levels, 4) increasing public awareness of the need for greater participation by women, 5) publicising the activities of women in politics, and 6) promoting and raise the profiles of women. Nature of support: In 1992 the Fund offered a grant of £10,000 over six months followed provisionally by three further six-monthly grants of £10,000 each. These grants were subsequently confirmed.
