DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, newsletters, newspaper cuttings, copies of published material, periodicals, reports, agendas and funding requests relating to PROP, the National Prisoners Movement. Funding source(s): Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd., Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: PROP (Preservation for the Rights of Prisoners) was founded in 1972. The organisation split into a number of groups, including a North London PROP and lacked a coordinated approach to national prison reform matters in the 1970s. Two branches of PROP (not including North London PROP) reformed in 1976 as a London based collective with additional links to Hull. PROP works to educate the public on prison reform through the publication of a printed journal, supporting publication projects and facilitating talks and discussions. Nature of support: Southfield Trustees recommended a grant of up to £1,600 for PROP during 1981 and £2,500 for 1982. In 1983 this total was increased to £3,000 per annum. The Fund paid these costs as well as a number of additional grants towards the living expenses of a number of staff at PROP. Minutes: BCF 2050, BCF 2130, BCF 2253, BCF 2322, BCF 2477, ST 35/80, ST 21/81, ST 28/82, ST 32/83. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest. File numbered 'AW/5/6/2'.
