The rape crisis centre concept has its origins in the American Women's Liberation Movement. The aim of the organisation is to provide, 1) emergency crisis intervention, 2) a supportive, calm environment for rape victims, 3) a coordinated group of volunteers to support victims, 4) ongoing support for victims, 4) basic skills of self defence, 5) train volunteer counsellors, 6) research the incidence of rape locally and nationally, and, 7) develop resources for educational purposes to foster better informed attitude towards rape. Nature of support: The Trust provided two annual £7,000 grants for 1980 and 1981. At the request of the Southfield Trust a £1,000 reserve was added to the £7,000 total for 1982 and 1983.
