Applicant overview: The Centre has a reputation as one of the UK's foremost departments of criminology through the publication of high quality research on a wide range of topics. It has made major contributions, from empirical, theoretical and historical perspectives, to the fields of victimisation, prisons, policing, restorative justice, parole, sentencing, the death penalty, probation and racial discrimination in the criminal justice system. The Centre dates its origin to 1966 and the creation of the Penal Research Unit.
