Applicant overview: 870 House provides a specialist, remedial youth service for the Selly Oak and surrounding districts of Birmingham. The House is not a youth club in the normally accepted sense. It is specialist in that it combines the various skills of a social worker, group worker, youth leader and teacher under one single service. It is remedial in that its membership is selected on the basis that each individual is suffering from personal, social or educational problems that require intensive, multi-disciplinary treatment. Nature of support: In 1974 the Trust agreed to a grant of between £500 and £1,000 to HYU, £900 was actually paid. Later that year three annual grants of £2,500 were made to HYU towards the salary of a warden. Further interim grants of £1,000 and £675 were made in 1975.
