Applicant overview: In 1958 Paul S. Cadbury was approached by representatives of the Probation Service with an appeal to improve the accommodation situation for new probation officers. Originally a block of flats was to be purchased for the officers, though subsequently the Newton Fund Ltd. was established to help new probation officers into housing. Nature of support: In 1959 the Fund approved an initial grant of £1,000 to the Newton Fund Ltd. In 1963 the Fund approved up to £2,600 in loans toward purchase of accommodation for probation staff.
