| Description | Grant file containing correspondence, minutes, agendas, payments summary, annual reports and funding requests relating to the Sam Sharpe Project (SSP), Wolverhampton. Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Southfield Trust. Applicant overview: SSP was established in 1983 as a result of a report on the disproportionally higher sentences given to black offenders over white offenders. A project was established to work closely with various agencies in the community, and with various arms of the judicial apparatus, particularly the Probation Department, to offer as wide a range of community based alternatives to custodial care for young black offenders as possible, and to work with the above services and the wider community in efforts to eradicate any forms of racism and ignorance which may exist in these services, and which, as a result, may work against the best interests of black people. Nature of support: In 1983 Southfield Trustees recommended three annual grants toward the costs of premises at £3,700, £3,000 and £3,500 respectively. Minutes: B&GSCT 5689, ST 11/83. Notes: File organised by date from newest to oldest. File numbered '5/21/2(D)'. |
