AMBoV is a voluntary and independent association of individual members of Boards. The Home Secretary appoints members of Boards of Visitors as the watchdogs of the prison service. Visitors report on the state of prison premises, the administration of the prison and treatment of prisoners and call attention to authorities any matters in need of consideration and review. AMBoV aims to educate, inform and support members of Board of Visitors of penal institutions in England and Wales. Nature of support: In 1985 on the advice of Southfield Trustees the Trust approved a single grant of £2,000 toward a pilot study into the future role of Boards.
