Applicant overview: HALOW was created in 1986 with the objects of relieving need, distress and hardship, and to advance education and training among the wives, children and other dependents of persons who are suffering or have suffered a legal restriction on their liberty in any penal or correctional establishment, particularly by the provision of legal and general advice. HALOW provides an advice line, provides counsellors to escort clients to trials all over the country, assists with transport and fuel bills and helps with liaison with statutory services. Nature of support: In 1986 the Trust approved an initial grant of £3,000 towards the cost of premises. In 1987 the Trust agreed to three annual grants of £15,000, £10,000 and £7,500 per annum towards salary costs of the Winson Green branch of HALOW. Minutes: B&GSCT 6623, B&GSCT 6658, BCF 2866.
