Applicant overview: WISH is a unique, national charity working with on behalf of women during, after and at risk of secure confinement in high security hospitals, medium secure units and prison psychiatric units. WISH aims to, 1) promote equality of opportunity and respond to the individual needs of women during, after and at risk of secure psychiatric containment, 2) be accessible to women who are at risk of secure psychiatric containment and work to prevent admissions, 3) inform, advise and give voice to women in secure psychiatric containment and to reduce their isolation, 4) work with staff and managers to improve the daily life of women in secure psychiatric institutions, 5) empower and support women on discharge from secure psychiatric containment, 6) promote provision of appropriate resources and facilities within the community, and 7) influence the review and reform of secure psychiatric provision for women, in tandem with the statutory and voluntary sector, by raising awareness, initiating research and promoting sound therapeutic strategies.
