Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust. Applicant overview: Hockley Port, later known as the CBF, is a youth adventure centre based on an old canal basin. It was founded on the principle that young people need something worthwhile to do. The Port runs a youth club that meets twice a week, hosts a summer camp at Lapworth and offers a community advice service. Instigated in 1971 the total number of visits by 1973 totalled 2,296. Nature of support: In 1973 the Trust approved three annual grants of £2,500 to pay additional staff costs. In 1978 a further grant of £2,000 was made towards the costs of converting a railway cargo basin into a local sports and leisure centre. Further developments including the construction of a recreation hall and toilet block were supported by a further grant of £5,000 in 1979.
