Applicant overview: In 1992 the Nottingham University's Department of Adult Education approached the Paul S. Cadbury Trust for a grant to support the Research Project on the Educational Impact of Local Voluntary Sector Organisations that was launched in 1989. The Project aims to discover, 1) what people learn and how they change as a result of, or in the process of, being members of voluntary organisations, 2) whether, how, to whom and how far such learning and change are transmitted, 3) what is the effect of these processes on the quality of life of individuals, groups and the whole of the communities which are being studied and their civil society, and 4) what are the particular implications of these findings for all those who are directly concerned and the general ones for the professions and for local and central government. Nature of support: In 1994 the Paul S. Cadbury Trust approved a single grant of £5,000 to the project. In 1996 on the advice of Community Organising Programme Relevant Trustees the Trust approved a single grant of £7,000 to support a further locality study.
