DescriptionGrant file containing correspondence, minutes, reports, accounts and funding requests relating to the Association for Neighbourhood Councils (ANC). Funding source(s): Barrow and Geraldine S. Cadbury Trust, Barrow Cadbury Fund Ltd. Applicant overview: The ANC is an advocate for the concept of neighbourhood councils. The neighbourhood council is independent from local and national government and is designed to give voice to ordinary people who may not be heard in the halls of power and to ensure that policy makers hear these voices. This action in turn leads to a sense of community, community empowerment and self-help. Neighbourhood councils can undertake a vast range of activities from cleaning up vandalism to operating day care centres to inputs into urban planning. The ANC was created in 1970 to research and campaign for the application of neighbourhood council structures in the UK. Nature of support: In 1981 the Trust agreed to guarantee the sum of £2,000 for the ANC in order to allow the organisation to continue operating. In 1982 the Fund allocated £800 to the ANC for the lease of printing equipment. That same year the Fund allocated a further £500 towards part-time secretarial and care taking expenses. In 1982 the Trust made a final grant of £2,000 to the ANC pending its closure. Minutes: B&GSCT 5322, B&GSCT 5329, B&GSCT 5540, BCF 2167, BCF 2187. Notes: File organised from newest to oldest.
