Applicant overview: The OWC exists to promote activities in the areas of social welfare, health, education, training, social and cultural welfare, as may be required for the advancement of Afro-Caribbean women (in particular) and their children in Coventry, and to promote the interests of all people of Afro-Caribbean descent to combat unemployment, racial discrimination and social prejudice; and to develop and promote close understanding of the economic, social, cultural and political causes from which disadvantage arise. The OWC began as a West Indian Youth Council project launched in 1982. Nature of support: In 1984 the Trust approved a single grant of £250 toward OWC running costs and £1,000 towards equipping the office.
