Applicant overview: The ARRG began its research into the behaviour of alcoholics in Birmingham through a feasibility study with the aim of applying its rehabilitation research to hostels for alcoholics. Nature of support: This project was viewed by Trustees as a particularly expensive undertaking with an original approved five year budget beginning in 1971 of £100,750 followed by £52,218 for 1977, £60,501 for 1978 and £44,416 for 1979. The funding of the hostels was the responsibility of the Aquarius charity, supported financially by the Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) and the Social Services Department.
