Applicant overview: SAMDP originated in 1985 with the aim of offering a group of approximately twenty young people of mixed ethnicity, gender and age an opportunity to acquire and develop an intermediate level of skill and knowledge of the repertoire of Indian classical and creative dance. The project is based at Churchfields High School in West Bromwich. Nature of support: In 1985 Minority Arts Programme Trustees recommended a grant of £1,000 to support dance tuition in Sandwell through the Sandwell Voluntary Mother Tongue Teaching Project. A renewed offer was made later in 1985, though this minute was cancelled and replaced with a new offer of £2,000 to be paid through West Midlands Arts.
