| Description | This file contains annotated production scripts and transcripts of actuality recordings for 'Steel'. Colour co-ordinated instructions relate to photographic slides which were incorporated in the production.
The scripts cover the original 1930s migration of steelworkers from Scotland to Corby and the campaign against closure of Corby in 1979 and 1980. An insight is given to the pressures and attractions that persuaded workers to leave Scotland for Northamptonshire, as is the lack of accommodation and amenities in Corby in the 1930s and the sometimes hostile reception given by locals to migrants. Comment is also made of the support given by Irish construction workers [navvies] to newly arrived Scots in Northamptonshire. |
