TitleWill of John Galton of Bristol, later of Dudson, near Birmingham
LevelFile
Date1764 - 1773
DescriptionThis file contains copies of three different versions of John Galton's will. The will dated 1764 bequeaths all real and personal estate to his brother Samuel Galton, including his share in a forge and furnace in the parish of Belbroughton, Staffordshire. He also leaves an annuity to his wife Hannah Galton, and all his goods and furniture. A subsequent version of the will is dated 1768, and consists of three copies. It differs slightly from the previous version in referring to his estate at Edymead in the parish of Burnham. It makes no provision for Hannah Galton, who had presumably died by this time. The final version of the will exists in two paper copies and a parchment probate copy dated 1773. By this time, John Galton was living at Dudson, near Birmingham. He bequeaths annuities to his sisters Edith, Elizabeth and Mary, and leaves his copyhold estate at Yatton, formerly called Captain Pauletts, to his brother Samuel Galton, with right of renewal. He also leaves to Samuel Galton his estate in fee at Allermore, at Edymead in the parish of Burnham, his houses at Taunton, and a moiety of a house and malthouse at Bridgwater. His leasehold estates at High Ham and Somerton are also to go to Samuel Galton, and to his son Samuel in the case of his death.
