| Description | These weekly letters covering the period from February to June 1809 were written when John Howard Galton was at school in Oxford. In addition to details about his current reading matter, and other news from Oxford, the majority of the letters contain translations from lines of Homer, and a statement of his weekly expenditure on letters, food and writing materials. It is clear from evidence elsewhere in the collection that John Howard Galton must have written regularly to his mother throughout the time he was at Oxford, and later at Glasgow, but it appears that these letters are the only ones to survive.
