James Farmer's letters in particular provide information about the running of the family gun manufacturing firm, and about his personal finances following his bankruptcy in 1755, but also include details about family affairs, and make reference to the social life of Mary Galton. Some of the letters written by Joseph Farmer refer to the 1745 rebellion, while letters from Susannah Abrahams solely discuss family and social news.
