followed by Fred Baker a rural labourer talking about his working conditions on a country estate of the landed gentry at the end of the nineteenth century (to 8.30);
followed by three engineers at the Marsh Barton Industrial Estate talking about their engineering apprenticeship
Track 2: Duration (min/sec): 21.06 Description of track: Two extracts where engineering workers talk about their attitudes to their jobs and pride in their work (to 3.12); the workers explain the technicalities of their jobs and the machinery (to 4.18); followed by Fred Baker (as in Track 1) the ex gardener talking about his work using 'lyrical language' to contrast with the 'technical' language of the engineering workers (to 5.53);
followed by workers talking about work in a small foundry in Exeter (c4 mins of silence at end of track)
