He talks about being regarded as a mining doctor, improvements with the development of mechanisation, and how diet can be a major contributing factor to illness, and symptoms of dust affecting the lungs, as well as the effects of working airspace becoming strangled. He tells stories of freeing a man from a cutter, and the cold blooded heroism of the miner, as well as other stories of danger.
