Bartly gives some history and background about Sligo and his family. Bartly explains why he likes and relates to Oliver Goldsmith's words. Bartly talks about working in England from 1938 onwards. He speaks about his background, labouring in Ireland and then attending school after the age of 14. Bartly speaks about drinking alcohol from a young age despite taking the abstinence pledge. He gives his opinion on the clergy that make young people take the abstinence pledge, Tony Crumlin from previous reels interjects with his own opinion on this subject. Bartly speaks about Irish history and his home village.
