McHugh speaks about tourism in Ireland, and how the poverty in Ireland (which he describes in detail) was not shown to the tourists. McHugh speaks about inequalities in Irish society at the time, and why people move away from Ireland, in his view people are 'driven out of Ireland'. McHugh speaks about the questions asked in the British parliament about Irish immigration (1960s). He speaks about 'coffin ships' in which Irish people emigrated to America but on which many peole died, referring to Irish labour as slave labour and describing how it affected families.
Tracks 6 - 8: The men discuss unofficial dances held at crossroads, the 'maypole' dances referred to on MS 4000/6/1/42/53. They discuss courtship, and issues surrounding class and religion affecting courtship and marriage in the 1930s to 1960s.
